In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to forget to take care of ourselves, which can lead to various health issues in the future. You may have often heard from elders that you shouldn’t drink water immediately after a meal. Instead, they suggest taking sips of water during the meal to help clear the throat if anything gets stuck.

Just like eating is beneficial for our health, drinking water is also essential for our bodies. But is it right to drink water right after a meal? Whether it’s appropriate to drink water immediately after eating depends on what you’ve consumed and how you’ve eaten your meal.

If your meal includes a variety of items, then drinking water shortly after eating can be beneficial, especially when it comes to fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables typically contain a lot of fiber, which helps keep us hydrated and aids in flushing out toxins from our bodies.

We should aim to drink plenty of water because adequate hydration helps distribute fiber throughout our body via the digestive system. This ensures that our bodies receive all the nutrients from the food we eat. However, there are some fruits, like guava, banana, apple, and watermelon, where it’s advisable to wait at least 30 minutes before drinking ice-cold water after consuming them.

So, the key is to strike a balance between staying hydrated and being mindful of what and when you eat to ensure optimal digestion and nutrient absorption.
