Until she was 90 years old, Sandhya Mukherjee was regarded as the prima donna of Bengali culture. Since the last week of January, she has been hospitalized. Earlier in the day, her blood pressure dropped and she was put on vasopressor support.
PTI was informed by a hospital source that the great Bengali musician had died from Cardiopulmonary arrest. Despite the extensive struggle to bring her back, she was pronounced dead. Press Trust of India, announced her death on Twitter.

She specialized in Bengali music as a playback singer and musician. In 1970, her songs in films like Nishi Padma & Jay Jayanti won her the National Film Award as Best Female Playback Artist.

She was also given the Banga Bibhushan civil honor, the highest civilian honor of West Bengal. Apart from her role as a playback vocalist, she has also performed in 17 Hindi films.
