Cristiano Ronaldo will be leaving Manchester United “with immediate effect,” the Premier League club said Tuesday.
The end of the forward’s contract, which is 37 years old, is due to an explosive interview in which he criticized manager Erik Ten Hag and the club owners.
It was not immediately clear what he’d do following his failure to get a deal with a Champions League club in the summer.

“Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early,” Ronaldo stated. “I am in love with Manchester United, and I love the supporters, and that will not change. But the time is right for me to pursue an opportunity to take on a new job.
