The Punisher Season 2 Recap
After a thrilling first season with exciting action coupled with a hooking storyline, The Punisher Season 2 kicks off with a calm episode that also has its share of action and violence. We see Frank Castle speeding in a car with a young girl, but their path is blocked by a couple of cars, and the scene cuts to Frank meeting a girl in a bar. Her name is Beth, and she is the bartender who was subjected to a drunk customer’s antics before Frank stepped in to save her. They end up going to Beth’s house later that night.
In the Morning, as Frank prepares to leave, he encounters Beth’s son, Rex. They decide to go out to get pancakes, although Beth is a bit worried that her son was in the house that day. The next night, Frank finds himself in the middle of a bar fight, and he is trying to protect the young girl whom he was fleeing with in the car scene. Things take a violent turn as Beth gets shot, and she is rushed to the hospital by Frank and the young girl.
The series continues with Frank and the girl checking into a motel. She introduces herself as Rachel as she treats her wounds by herself and is interrogated about her situation by Frank. Wherever Frank Castle goes, trouble follows shortly and this time it is the gang that were after Rachel, who had tracked down the motel and start a gunfight. Meanwhile, the show also features Madani visiting Russo frequently. Russo talks about a mysterious man who led an attack on the precinct. The mysterious man turns out to be John Pilgrim.
Things escalate at the Larkville County Sheriff Station as Pilgrim lays siege on the officers there, but Frank manages to fend them off before Pilgrim tries to sneak up on him. Madani arrives in a helicopter to inform Frank that Russo has escaped, the two along with Rachel head to New York. In further episodes, Russo’s flashbacks continue as he is seen in counselling, which gives us an idea of his past.
Upon further investigation, Frank finds out that Russo has amnesia. Rachel opens up to Frank, saying she used to be a part of a Russian con group who had been killed for framing someone influential, and that is the reason why she was being followed by the Russian gang.
Frank works with Amy to capture Poloznev and after interrogation they find out that the victim of Rachel’s con group was senator David Schultz, a closeted homosexual. Poloznev is released from Frank’s custody, but soon gets executed by Pilgrim.
Things develop between Russo and his Psychiatrist Dr. Dumont and their relationship takes a sexual turn, in a twisted manner. Madani tries to confront Dumont in the penultimate episode of the season after finding out. Dr. Dumont tries to attack Madani, but she manages to defend herself. Russo, in an act of self-defense, ends up pushing Dumont out of the window, leading to her demise.
In the season finale, Russo is fuming after seeing Dumont’s fate and is set to avenge her. He tries to kill Madani, but gets shot by her instead. We also get to see an action packed, hand-to-hand fight between Pilgrim and Frank, and the latter ends up winning the fight. Frank continues to work as the Punisher, while Madani returns to work for the CIA.
