The Great Jahy will not be defeated or Jahī-sama wa Kujikenai! is a Japanese shounen, comedy, slice-of-life and supernatural anime, adapted from Square Enix’s manga series written by Wakame Konbu, of the same name. The Great Jahy will not be defeated was adapted as an anime television series by Silver Link and the first episode was aired in August 2021.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated : Plot

The Great Jahy will not be defeated follows the trope where the main character loses their status, possessions or home and has to work hard to restore their original home and regain whatever they have lost. What makes The Great Jahy will not be defeated stand out among other animes with the same trope is the positivity and the implementation of the concept of good karma in the plot.

The titular character of the anime, The Great Jahy Sama is a powerful demonic lord who happens to be the second in command of the dark realm, that is until she has an encounter with a Magical Girl. After the duel, the dark realm is destroyed and the Great Jahy Sama finds herself on earth, among humans. 

Jahy, who used to be the second strongest demon lady in the dark realm, loses most of her powers after the magical girl destroys her huge mana crystal, which was the source of Jahy’s powers. Jahy has to reside among humans on earth, in the body of a young child. Jahy’s purpose on earth is to collect enough mana crystals which can be obtained by doing good deeds on earth, in order to return to her normal self and regain her mantle as the deputy commander of the dark realm.

After her  defeat, Jahy is found by two human sisters. The elder sister, Chisa referred to as boss is an owner of a local pub called ‘Sōsaku Izakaya Maō’ and the younger sister Ryou is a landlord of an old apartment. During her time on earth, Jahy lives in Ryou’s run-down apartment and has to work at Chisa’s local pub owned by. The once great Jahy works as a waitress at the pub, wage-slaving her way through her life on earth.

The Great Jahy Will Not be Defeated has 20 episodes, the first one came out in August 2021 on ABC and TV Asahi’s ANiMAZING!!! programming block. The Great Jahy Will Not be Defeated is also available to stream on the popular subscription based streaming site CrunchyRoll.

The Great Jahy Synopsis

In the first episode of The Great Jahy will Not be Defeated, we see Jahy losing her powers after her mana is shattered and ending up on earth in a young child’s body. Jahy is determined to find her way back home and regain her power by collecting all the mana crystals and eventually restoring the dark realm. She utilizes her remaining magic to regain her adult form to work part time at Chisa’s pub.

As the show progresses Jahy stumbles upon Druj who used to be her loyal servant in the dark realm. On earth, Druj is a successful businesswoman  with a classy high-rise apartment. Seeing her servant having more fortune on earth makes Jahy feel inferior. Jahy tries to hide her shabby earth life from Druj.In subsequent episodes, Jahy encounters other beings from the Dark Realm, including Saurva.

Saurva had tried for a very long time to take Jahy’s place as the dark realm’s second in command. The show has a humorous aspect as Saurva’s attempts to weaken Jahy and ruin her reputation are all in vain. 

In the later episodes of The Great Jahy will not be defeated, Jahy bumps into the human form of the magic girl who destroyed Jahy’s crystal mana. Jahy’s misfortunes continue as she drops her guard down and loses her crystal mana to the magical girl. Jahy spends the evening drinking with Ryou. The show proceeds with various adventures and quests taken up by the Jahy in an attempt to return to her former glory.

The show has a perfect sad-happy ending making it an exciting watch.

The Great Jahy will not be defeated is a show packed with lots of laughs and it hits just right with the perfect mix of emotions. A goofy slice-of-life anime series, The great Jahy will not be defeated has a great plot that keeps the audience hooked till the end of the show.
