Bappi Lahiri, the great musician and a composer who made disco music popular in India in the early 80s to the late 90s was pronounced dead yesterday at Mumbai’s CritiCare Hospital.
Bappi Lahiri was just 69 years old and also regarded as the disco king of India.
The most famous contribution that Disco King made to Indian disco music is that of popularizing the genre. He died because of a sleep disorder in which he felt discomfort in breathing, generally called sleep apnea. On Monday, the Disco King was discharged from the hospital after being in the hospital for over a month.
However, his health started to decline on Tuesday. His family called the doctor to come to visit them. He was taken to the Criticare hospital. But because of several health issues, he died at midnight.
Disco King was most famous for his contributions to popularizing disco music in India. His success with Bengali films is his most notable accomplishment. Some of his super hit songs were “Disco Dancer”, “Chalte Chalte”, and “Sharaabi”. As for his last Bollywood song, it was “Bhankas” for the 2020 film “Baaghi 3”.
The music director and playback musician had been featured in a television commercial for soft drink as the ‘golden guy’ of India.
